The Great Depression was a desperate time for the US and the world at large, and it spawned a whole host of criminals and gangs looking to take what they couldn't get. John Dillinger's crime spree of robbing banks and shooting back at cops across the Midwest only lasted about a year, but in that time he became something of a folk hero, as he expertly executed heist after heist, using a method he'd studied intensely during a 9 year prison stint.
In part one of this two-parter, learn about Dillinger's early years, as well as all the fearsome ways the rest of the world was responding to the economic havoc. Hitler sure was busy. Also learn why Allison has a bit of a personal connection to the story of Dillinger.
